The founder of the collection is Prof. Dr. Povilas Pakarklis (1902–1955), corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR, who organized an archaeographic expedition to the Klaipėda region in 1945-1946.
Received in 1947 m. from the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR.

This collection was received in 1947 m. from the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR and supplemented by documents that had been brought by Povilas Pakarklis from the Kaliningrad region in 1946. It was further supplemented in 1966, 1969, 1974, and 1987.

The collection was compiled from the documents brought by an archaeographic expedition run by the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in 1944–1945 and led by a corresponding member of the Academy, Povilas Pakarklis.
Received in 1946 from the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR.
