Copying Services
The Library offers paid photocopying, photography, digitization and printing services (Services Price List) aiming to provide the Library’s users with copies of requested materials for personal use.
To copy documents for publishing or project-related purposes please complete the order form and apply for permission to the Library Director by e-mail: biblioteka@mab.lt.

Who may use the services?
The services are available to both registered users and unregistered visitors of the Library.
Registered users are welcome to
- use self-service copying equipment in reading rooms;
- request staff members of the Library to make copies of documents;
- submit an online request for copies by completing the Copy Order Form.
Unregistered visitors are welcome to submit an online request for copies by completing the Copy Order Form.
Copying documents with personal equipment is prohibited in the Manuscript and Rare Books Departments due to the danger of immediate damage and long-term wear and tear to the documents.
What is available for copying?
You may copy (or request to make copies of) documents held in the Main Collection of the Library as well as in the Manuscripts and Rare Books Departments.
- Only documents in good condition are available for copying.
- The following documents are only available for photographing and scanning so as to protect them from damage: manuscript documents (pre-20th cent.), old publications (pre-19th cent.), photo documents, maps, engravings, proclamations, posters, playbills, drawings (pre- and including 1960) old periodicals (pre-20th cent.), hard-bound or large-format periodicals (pre- and including 1945), and restored documents.
- The documents unavailable for copying are as follows: published documents kept in the Manuscripts Department; documents published or under preparation for publication by the Library or its partners, entire sets or collections; inventories of manuscripts.
- High quality digital copies of documents are only made for publishing purposes. Later they are placed into the Digital Archive of the Library for public use.
- Final decision on whether a document may be copied is taken by the responsible staff member of the Library, who will let you know about their decision.
Part of the items held in the Library have already been digitized and are easily accessible to registered users through the Library’s Catalogue Search Gateway. You are welcome to download the copy of an item from the digital archive for personal use.

Documents are copied in accordance with the Republic of Lithuania Law on Copyright and Related Rights;
According to the Republic of Lithuania Law Amending the Law on Copyright and Related Rights, it shall be permissible to reproduce a published article or any other short work, or a short extract of a writing only for individual use:
1. It shall be permitted for a natural person, without the authorization of the author or any other owner of copyright, to reproduce, exclusively for his individual use, not for direct or indirect commercial advantage, in a single copy a work published or communicated to the public in any other mode, where the reproduction is a single-action. When works are for the private use reproduced on paper by means of reprography (effected by the use of any kind of photographic technique or some other process having similar effects), the provisions of Article 23 of this Law shall apply.
1. Without the authorisation of the author or other owner of copyright in a work, it shall be permissible to reproduce on paper the following by means of reprography (effected by the use of any kind of photographic technique or by some other process having similar effects):
1) a published article or any other short work, or a short extract of a writing, with or without illustrations, not for direct or indirect commercial advantage, provided that such reproduction is a separate single act. Repeated acts of such reproduction shall be permissible if they are done on unrelated occasions;

Making a request for digitization, please make sure to ask that title pages, covers and other information needed for document identification be included.
Time of service delivery
Once your payment has been received, digital copies will be made within 10 workdays. The speed of service depends on the complexity and size of your order and on the time required to prepare the documents for scanning. If you need copies faster, please write to skaitmeninimas@mab.lt. We will send the copies to the e-mail address entered in the order form or through Wetransfer. If mailing by post, postage fees will be charged in accordance with the postage rates of the Lithuanian Post effective at the time of mailing.
Prices for copying services
Copying services offered by the Library are paid for (Services Price List). When copying documents held in the Manuscripts and the Rare Books Department, the price can include costs of preparation of the document for scanning. For the price of copying a document, please contact the department that holds it:

Documents are digitized by the Digitization Department. If you wish to order digitization of materials held in the Manuscripts or the Rare Book Department, please complete the Order Form.
Please note that the prices listed do not include the fee for a data storage device.
We can save your ordered digital copies into your personal data storage device, or send them by e-mail, or save them into a storage device provided by the Library and mail by post.
