The founder of the collection  is the Varpas joint stock company founded in 1920 in Kaunas and active until  1940. Its main activity was book publishing.

The collection was acquired in 1950 from the then Kaunas University.

The founder of the collection is the Society of the 27 Book Lovers active in 1930–1940 in Kaunas. One of its main goals was to research the history of the Lithuanian book.

The collection was acquired in 1950 from the then Kaunas University.

The founders of the collection are the Philomaths, a student society at Vilnius University active in   1817–1823, and the Philarets (one of the Philomaths’ organizations, active in 1820–1823).  The founders of this society were the students Adam Mickiewicz, Józef Jeżowski, Onufry Pietraszkiewicz, Tomasz Zan and others.

The collection was received in 1948 from the Institute of Lithuanian Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR (now the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore).

The founder of the collection is the Šviesa (Light) Book Publishing Company established in Vilnius in 1905.  It was first headed by Povilas Višinskis; in 1906, by the linguist Jurgis Šlapelis; from 1907, by the physician Stasys Matulaitis. Šviesa was in operation until 1913.

The collection was received in 1945 from the Institute of Lithuanian Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR (now the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore).

The founder of the collection is Kultūra, a cooperative culture and book company active in 1920–1939 in Šiauliai. It had representatives in county and district centers, organized creative workshops, established theaters and movie theaters, published scientific, artistic and popular science literature.

The collection was acquired in 1950 from the Šiauliai Aušra Museum.

The collection was acquired from the Board of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR.

The founder of the collection is the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania active in Lithuania in 1896–1936. The documents were collected by the party’s archivist, A. Moravskis (1868–1941), who at first kept them in Vilnius, later in London, and from 1919, in Kaunas.

The collection was acquired in 1950 from the then Kaunas University.

The founder of the collection is the Society of the Lithuanian Students in Petrograd active in 1892–1917. Its goals were to provide aid to the society’s members (especially to poor ones), and promote Lithuanian activities.

The collection was acquired in 1950 from the library of the then Kaunas University.

The founder of the collection is the Rytas (Morning) Society active in 1912–1938 in the Vilnius region. Its main goals were to disseminate Lithuanian national self-awareness, and to organize schools, libraries, and reading rooms.

The collection was received in 1956 from the Institute of Lithuanian Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR (now the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore).

The founder of the collection is the Society of Aid to Lithuanians (Lithuanian Aid Society for Assistance to Our Brothers Lithuanian Prisoners from Eastern Prussia) established in Vilnius in 1914. It operated in 1916–1918 in Saratov.

The collection was received in 1956 from the Institute of Lithuanian Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR (now the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore).

The founder of the collection is the committee for preservation of documents related to Dr. Vincas Kudirka established in Kaunas on November 16, 1929 and active until 1936. The goal of the committee was to collect and keep documentary materials related to Vincas Kudirka.

The collection was acquired in 1950 from the library of the then Kaunas University.

The founder of the collection is the Vincas Kudirka Educational Society that operated  in 1923–1923 in Kaunas as an adult education organization. Its activities were continued by the People’s University opened on March 25, 1924 and by the Evening Courses for Adults that opened on November 18, 1924 and operated in four districts of Kaunas.

The collection was acquired in 1950 from the library of the then Kaunas University.

The founder of the collection is the Polish Student Corporation (Konwent Polonia), which was established 1828 at the University of Tartu and operated in Vilnius in 1919–1939.

The founder of the collection is the Vilnius St. Zita Society of Lithuanian Maidservants that was established in Vilnius in 1905 and was in operation until 1940.

The founder of the collection is the Society for Support of the Vilnius Region active from October 1939 to July 1940. It was established after Lithuania regained the Vilnius region. Its goal was to collect, in Lithuania, donations for Vilnius residents and provide them with material aid.

The collection was received in 1947 from the Institute of Lithuanian Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR (now the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore).

The founder of the collection is the Union for the Liberation of Vilnius, a public organization active in 1925–1938.

In 1940, the documents of the Union for the Liberation of Vilnius were moved from Kaunas to the premises of the Lithuanian Scientific Society in Vilnius. In 1947, the Institute of Lithuanian Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR (now the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore) handed them over to the Manuscript Department of the Central Library of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR.

The founder of the collection is the Society for Support of Lithuanians in Foreign Countries active in 1932–1940 in Independent Lithuania. The initiators of its establishment were Jonas Endrikis Grigolaitis, Kazys Kasakaitis, Rapolas Skipitis, and Juozas Vanagas-Simonaitis.

The founder of the collection is the Union of Lithuanian Peasant Populists (Liaudininkai) active in 1917–1936. Representatives of the left wing of the Lithuanian Democratic Party called themselves the Lithuanian Socialist Popular Peasant Party at the congress held in Voronezh in November 1917.

The collection was acquired in 1950 from the library of the then Kaunas University.

The founder of the collection is the Lithuanian Society for Agricultural and Legal Aid to War Victims active in Vilnius in 1915–1918.  It was established on May 21, 1915 by left-wing Lithuanian intellectuals who left the Lithuanian Society for Aid to War Victims.  Andrius Bulota, Aleksandra Bulotienė and the writer Julija Žymantienė-Žemaitė were authorized by the society to collect donations from the Lithuanian diaspora in the U.S.A.  The society was abolished in 1918.

The founder of the collection is the Union of Lithuanian Pharmacists active in Moscow in 1915–1917 and in Vilnius in 1918–1919.

The collection was received in 1956 from the Institute of Lithuanian Language and Literature of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR (now the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore).

The collection at first belonged to the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Lithuanian SSR In 1951, an institute staff member, G. Orda, catalogued and classified the documents (165 items) in Russian.  In 1963, Vytautas Merkys handed the collection over to the Library of the Academy of Sciences. In 1970, J. Lavrova  recatalogued the collection, keeping G. Orda’s  descriptions and classification, and merging some items. The descriptions in Russian have been left in the card catalogue.

The founder of the collection is Rūta, the Lithuanian cultural union that was founded on the initiative of Mykolas Sleževičius and operated in Vilnius in 1909–1914.

The founder of the collection is Antanas Vileišis (18561919), physician, founder of the Society for Mutual Aid of Vilnius Lithuanians, and of a two-class school, organizer of the first exhibition of Lithuanian art (1907), author of popular medical booklets, and a participant in the resistance to the Lithuanian press ban in the late 19th century.
