The founder of this collection is Romas Pakalnis (January 4, 1941 in Kirkliai (Daugailiai Volost) – September 20, 2000 in Vilnius), forestry engineer, ecologist, and a civic activist. In 1963, he graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Agriculture. In 1970, he became a staff member of the Institute of Botany, and in 1981, head of the Laboratory of Landscape Ecology. In 1984-1989, he was deputy director, and in 1989-2002, director of this institute. He was instructor at Vilnius Pedagogical University (since 1993) and Šiauliai University (since 2005), becoming a professor in 2001. In 1981-1985, he secretary of the Lithuanian National Committee of “Man and the Biosphere” international program. Since 1985, deputy chairman of this committee. In 1988, he became a member of the Sąjūdis Initiative Group and the Sąjūdis Seimas. In 1989-1990, a member of the Independent Communist Party of Lithuania. Since 1995, editor-in-chief of Botanica Lithuanica journal. In 1992-1996, chairman of the Lithuanian Education Council; since 1992, president of the Lithuanian Botanical Society. Since 1997, Romas Pakalnis was president of the Eugenija Šimkūnaitė Charity and Support Foundation. In 2003-2008, chairman of the Lithuanian National Radio and Television Council. In 2009-2018, chairman of the Lithuanian National UNESCO Commission. Romas Pakalnis participated in seminars and symposiums on environmental protection, biodiversity, and landscape ecology held in Germany, the Czech Republic, France, Finland, and Sweden. His research interests lay primarily in the fields of landscape ecology and environmental protection. He authored more than 230 scientific and popular articles. He was awarded the President Valdas Adamkus Prize (1996), the Lithuanian Independence Medal (2000), the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Gediminas (2002).

The founder of this collection is Antanas Purėnas (February 16, 1881 in Tatkonys (Skapiškis volost, Zarasai region) – November 5, 1962 in Kaunas), Lithuanian organic chemist; cultural, political, and civic activist. One of the creators of Lithuanian terminology in organic chemistry. Full member and vice-president of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences (1941). He graduated from the Liepaja Gymnasium School in 1902 and entered the University of Tartu. Participated in the Russian Revolution of 1905-1907. In 1910, graduated from the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics at St. Petersburg University. In 1910-1918, he taught at the commercial school of the Neva Society. He organized general education courses for Lithuanian war refugees and headed them in 1915-1917. After the reorganization of these courses into the Lithuanian Gymnasium in 1917, he was its director until 1918. In 1916-1918, member of the Committee of the Lithuanian Society for the Relief of War Sufferers. In 1918, he returned to Lithuanian with his wife. In 1919-1921, he was director of the Rokiškis Gymnasium School. He was a representative of the Constituent Seimas (1920-1922), where he served as vice-chairman of the Education Commission. Member of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (1925–1936). In 1921-1922, Antanas Purėnas taught organic chemistry at the Higher Courses; in 1922-1950, at Kaunas University (1922–1930, Lithuanian University; 1930–1946, Vytautas Magnus University), where he was secretary of the Senate and Council in 1927, vice-rector since 1939, and rector in 1940-1941 and 1944-1946. In 1922, he founded the Department of Organic Chemistry (1956-1962, Department of Organic Chemistry and Technology), where he became professor in 1944 and which he headed in 1947-1962. His scientific interests lay in the field of organic compounds. He led research into local materials of plant and animal origin and synthesis of biologically active compounds. He translated Arnold Frederik Holleman’s organic chemistry textbook (1925) into Lithuanian, where he laid the foundations of the Lithuanian terminology of organic chemistry. Author of articles and editor for numerous scientific, popular, and socio-political periodicals. Throughout his entire life, Antanas Purėnas was actively engaged in civic activities. In July 1941 he was arrested by the Gestapo. During and after World War II, he contributed to the effort in returning of deported Lithuanian scientists to Lithuania, for which he was harassed by the NKVD.
The collection was acquired from Prof. Dr. Habil. Romualdas Baltrušis through the mediation of the Head of the Kaunas University of Technology Museum, Dr. Audronė Veilentienė. The documents will be itemized the next year.

The founder of this collection is Vilius Puronas (born February 11, 1947 in Panevėžys), professional industrial designer, artist, ethnographer, and Šiauliai city civic activist. He is also known as an expert on the history of Šiauliai, TV lecturer, writer, publisher, and author of 14 records in the Lithuanian Book of Records.
One of the most productive Šiauliai artists, he received numerous awards for his creative and publishing work. In 1953-1954, he attended the Panevėžys Boarding School, where he acquired the professions of photographer and metal-worker. In 1967-1971, he studied industrial art at the Vilnius State Art Institute, from where he graduated as designer and artist-constructor. In 1964-1967, he worked as a photographer for the Ekranas plant in Panevėžys. In 1973-1992, he worked as senior artist for the Šiauliai Executive Committee of the Council of People’s Deputies. In 1994-2004, he was director of the Neuwerbung advertising agency; in 2000-2008, lectured at the Department of Design at the Faculty of Arts of Šiauliai University; in 2004-2012, was chief specialist of the Šiauliai municipal administration; in 2008-2011, lectured at the Department of Tourism Administration of the Šiauliai State College. In 2012-2015, he worked at the Šiauliai Tourism Information Center as project manager and lectured at the Šiauliai Vocational Training Center. Since 1984, Vilius Puronas has been a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association; since 1987, a member of the Lithuanian Designers’ Society (LDiS). In 1986–1995 and 2007–2016 he was chairman of the LDiS’ Šiauliai branch, and in 2007–2021, member of the LDiS’ board. In 1990-1994, he was a deputy of the First Šiauliai City Council of Independent Lithuania. He is not affiliated with political parties. Since 2008, he has been Knight of the historical Order of the Knights of the Jotvingian Cross of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
The collection was acquired from the founder. Comprehensive statistics, methodology and descriptions of the authorial works are provided with a view to portraying artistic life in Šiauliai in 1973–1993 and 2004–2012.
