The founder of this collection is Konstantinas Galkauskas (1875–1963), composer, music educator: he headed the Vilnius Music School in 1918–1922, taught music in various Vilnius schools in 1922–1940, was the choir leader in the Vytautas Magnus School, worked at the Švenčioniai Lithuanian School, was lecturer at the Vilnius Conservatory since 1945 and professor since 1947.
The collection was acquired in 1964 from Konstantinas Galkauskas’ daughter Tamara Galkauskaitė.

The founder of this collection is Vida Girininkienė (Jukniūtė, real last name Juknevičiūte, born on June 7, 1946, in Pulpasiai, Joniškis district), Lithuanian historian, socio-political author, tourist guide, and translator. In 1964, she graduated from the Naujoji Akmenė secondary school, and in May 1972, from the Faculty of History at Vilnius University. Since 1970, she was head of the Antiquities Department of the Museum of Atheism; since 1975, a researcher and department head at the Lithuanian State Historical Archives; since 1991, researcher at the Institute of Culture and Art; since 2001, editor-in-chief at the Versmė publishing house and instructor in the history of 19th-century Lithuania at the Vilnius Pedagogical University; since 2011, curator of the museum house of Marija and Jurgis Šlapelis. She is a member of the Mažvydas Bibliophiles Club, Lituanistų Sajūdis (Lithuanianist Association), the Union of Lithuanian Journalists, and the chairman of the Rasos Cemetery Society. In 1992–2004, she was on the editorial board of the annual almanac “Mūsų kraštas” (Our Land) published by the Lithuanian Ethnographic Society. She wrote, co-authored, compiled, and edited numerous reference, ethnographic, and historical publications. The calendar book “Simonui Daukantui 225“ (“Simonas Daukantas Turns 225“, 2017), published by her was awarded the Laurynas Ivinskis Prize in 2018. Vida Girininkienė was the initiator of the Simon Daukantas Memorial Year (2017). In 2018, she was awarded the Medal of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas for her civic activities.
