The founder of the collection is Habibas Cachajevas (Habib Cachajev, 1921–2008), physician, physiologist, Habilitated Doctor of Biological Sciences (1964), professor (1966), staff member of the Institute of Biology (later, of Zoology and Parasitology) of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences (1951–1990).
The collection was received in 2015 from scientific researchers at the Institute of Zoology and Parasitology of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences (now Institute of Ecology), Dr. Alina Šveistytė and Dr. Algimantas Jakimavičius.

The founder of the collection is Vytautas Civinskas (1883–1910), veterinarian, educator, author of memoirs. In 1904–1905, he studied agriculture abroad. Afterwards, he read veterinary medicine at the University of Dorpat (Tartu).
The collection was received in 1950 from the library of the then Kaunas State University.
